Clarity of Vision
Paintings by James Aponovich

The Banks Gallery will host Clarity of Vision, an exhibition and sale of contemporary paintings by New Hampshire’s Artist Laureate, James Aponovich. The exhibition will be held at The Banks Gallery, located at 123 State Street in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Show will open on Sunday April 13th 2008 and will conclude on Sunday, May 11th 2008. The exhibition is open to the public free of charge.

James Aponovich (b.1948-) is a still life painter, known for his complex compositions of fruits and flowers, set against an idealized landscape background. A strong undercurrent of surrealism pervades Aponovich's work. His paintings focus on the ideal, as opposed to the real. Aponovich has mastered the ability to combine imagination with technical mastery , creating paintings that are inevitably described as magical. Examples of Aponovich’s work can be @ the Currier Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Portland Museum of Art, among others. This exhibition, will display recent paintings by the artist as well as include paintings from public and private collections.
